Serial political carpet bombings which reveal more of politics than ethics

By D N Singh

It has become a serial political blast in the last few days when politics has surpassed the limits of ethics of politics in the name of law and ethics.

The most  recent being the case of the Congress leader Pawan Khera who was arrested on the charges chargeof humiliating the Prime Minister by making a wrong pronunciation of the latter’s middle name. That was described as malicious and insulting which was obviously not such a sacrilege to invite action like being deplaning and arrest.

Even if it was a slip of tongue or even a deliberate jibe to relate him to one business tycoon, it can at best be interpreted as a hilarious but highly personal tirade deserving an apology from Khera. Not a criminal offence for arrest.

The second carpet bombing of the series was the arrest of Delhi’s Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on the issue of Excise scam on which so far, the probing agencies have not been able to gather a shred of evidence against Sisodia.

First it was the marathon raid and interrogation at his residence and another round of probe. Nothing came out.

On   last Sunday again the CBI summoned Sisodia and after 8 hours, the CBI arrested him although without any substantive charge framed. Plus the agency has decided to take Sisodia on a two week long remand to push the probes ahead.

Perhaps, it has been a two months long rigorous probe yet the evidence against Sisodia is not visible.

On the hind sight, the fracas between the Centre and the BBC over the documentary has so far dragged itself more than required and the issue has already got reviewed by the Supreme Court and the apex court did not find anything so offensive to invite such a deadlock.

Two days raid at  the BBC office in Delhi also did not elicit any corroborative substance to punish the broadcasters with anything so punitive. Except one phrase ‘Tranfer pricing’ violation.
