Ropeway at Nandankanan will start functioning from Saturday

Bhubanewar, Nov 17 : The ropeway facility at the Nandan Kanan Zoo here will start functioning again on Saturday.

Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat inaugurated the ropeway on Friday.

Kolkata-based Damodar Ropeway Infra Limited (DRIL) has constructed the ropeway at a cost of around Rs 13 crore, which had been defunct for several months.

The ropeway facility will start at the zoo campus and culminate at the botanical garden. It will cover a distance of 626 meters.
It has 12 cabins, each with the capacity to accommodate three to six people.

The ropeway can run on both electricity and power generators.

ACF Nandankanan, Sarat Sahu, said, “There are 12 cabins. While at any given time, 72 visitors can enjoy the ride, a maximum of 400 visitors can enjoy the facility in an hour.

The ticket price is fixed at Rs 120 per person.

Sahu said 38 lakh visitors visited Nandankanan last year.

This year, 15,000 visitors are visiting the zoo daily.

He hoped that the number of visitors would increase with the inauguration of the facility.”
