The recent visit to US by the senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is viewed as a step in the direction of countering the Modi bash there.
It is a different matter that, Rahul made it look like an academic pursuit but the essence was the Indian Diaspora there to be wooed for the 2024 elections in India,
It must have a caused some concern in the BJP quarters and a bit of worry for the PM Modi.
Political analyst see the reason that, after Bharat Jodo Jatra followed by the resounding success in Karnataka has taken Rahul’s acceptance a notch higher.
It is a different matter that at this juncture when Modi’s image push at a big high so, Rahul may not have made that big a dent in the former’s popularity but according to analyst and journalist Arundam Sengupta in Delhi, it surely make a divide among the Indian Diaspora.
It is important that Congress’ diaspora push and attributed the visit to a growing curiosity around the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress’ victory in Karnataka and to hear the Congress leader opine on agendas like the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and India’s role in the world.
Besides the Congress party Rahul must have focused on his personal image push as he stands as the obvious choice for the Congress if the things go well in 2024.
But that depends how big the outcome can be given the tremendous outreach Modi has made in last nine years across the world as far Indian Diaspora is concerned.
“Even after winning the last two elections Modi has engaged himself with the outer world which pays eventually” added Sengupta
Rahul here onwards has to look for avenues as how to touch the areas where the Modi led BJP lacks or vulnerable.
In earlier few occasions Rahul’s take during his foreign tours got well covered yet back home an impression was built that, Rahul somehow hampered the Indian image which must have bothered the Indian Prime Minister in recent times.
Because, criticism get wider publicity than mere narratives as punch lines.
During Gandhi’s trip to the United Kingdom, his remarks in the ‘state of Indian democracy’ sparked controversy back home. He was met with similar reception during his multiple speaking engagements in the US.
