Pradhan urges Odisha CM again to implement PM Shri scheme

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 : Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday reiterated his request to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to consider implementing the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme in Odisha.
Launching the PM Shri scheme in 63 central and Navodaya schools in Odisha here, Pradhan said the Chief Minister should set aside politics and competitions and implement the scheme in Odisha.
Pradhan said if the Chief Minister decided to implement the scheme in Odisha two government schools from each block and Municipal areas would be developed under the scheme. The centre will provide Rs two crore assistance to each school. In Odisha around 800 schools would be developed under PM Shri scheme and a sum of more than Rs 1600 crore assistance will come from central government in five years.
The schools will get the latest technology, smart classrooms, plastic-free environment. Development of sports and valuation of students’ quality would be done.
He said the Chief Minister can pick up the schools where the scheme would be implemented.
The Union Minister said all should come forward to shape the future of one crore Odia students.
In the country the scheme would be implemented in over 14,500 schools, an amount of Rs 27,360 crore would be spent. In the first phase 6,500 schools have already been selected for the purpose.
Very soon in second phase an additional 4,000 schools would be selected, he said.
