Odisha Assembly adjourned sine die a day before schedule

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3 : Odisha Assembly was adjourned sine die on Tuesday by Speaker Pramilla Mallick a day before its scheduled date.
The Monsoon session of the Assembly commenced on September 22 and was to end on October 4, but Speaker Pramila Mallick adjourned the house on Tuesday.

The entire monsoon session was stormy with opposition BJP and Congress attacking the ruling BJD on many issues including the visit of 5 T secretary V K Pandian to various districts.
Two BJP members Mohan Majhi and Mukesh Mahaling were suspended from the House for allegedly throwing pulses at the podium of the Speaker.
The assembly witnessed ruckus and major parts of the business were washed out due to protest by the BJP and Congress and also the counter protest by the Treasury bench members who had raised the central negligence issue and hike in MSP of paddy
The remark of Arun Sahu (BJD) on the mental health of the leader of the Opposition J N Mishra and the Chief Minister’s comment that the opposition are anti-people and anti development had caused ruckus in the House leading to a series of adjournments without transacting business on many occasions.
Due to the protest by the Opposition and also the Treasury bench members, the House could not function normally even for a single day.
The BJP took a pot shot at Speaker Pramila Mallik, accusing her of acting in a partisan manner at the behest of the BJD
The opposition BJP members repeatedly disrupted the proceedings of the House demanding the lifting of the suspension of its two leaders, expunging the remark made by BJD member Arun Sahu and the ‘’anti-people” remark of Chief Minister against the Opposition from the official record.
The Speaker was forced to expunge the remarks of BJD MLA Arun Sahu against the leader of the Opposition.
Amidst the protest the ouse passed the first supplementary statement of expenditure and the Appropriation bill on the first supplementary budget for 2023-24 and presented the CAG report in the House.
The debates on the admissibility of adjournment motion moved by the Opposition BJP and the Congress could not be taken up for discussion due to ruckus created by the opposition and the treasury bench members.
Many bills were taken up and several reports were laid in the house in the absence of the Opposition members who had staged noisy walkouts in support of their demands.
