.Manipur govt fails machinery and has failed in all aspects: CAS Shillong,
Imphal, Aug 5 : Thousands of Christian community members took part in a silent peace rally organised by the Catholic Association of Shillong (CAS) here in Meghalaya on Saturday condemning the inhumane acts of violence and brutality in Manipur, even as it informed President Droupadi Murmu that the BJP government has “miserably failed” to protect the innocent and to uphold peace and justice in that strife-torn State. The peace rally was attended by political leaders from both the ruling and opposition political parties, including senior BJP and Fisheries Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek, National People’s Party and Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Leader of Opposition Ronnie Lyngdoh, Trinamool Congress legislator Charles Pyngrope. Church leaders from various Christian denominations also called upon the BJP-led governments in both the Centre and in Manipur to restore peace and justice, besides appealing to right thinking members of Metei and Kuki-Zo community to initiate the process of peace dialogue. In a memorandum to President Murmu, which was submitted through Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan, the CAS sought her sought her intervention to issue necessary directions to law enforcement agencies and the National Human Rights Commission and Commissions for the protection of women and children, both in the central and state level, to take suo motu on all the lawless situations and incidents in Manipur. “The State machinery has failed miserably in all aspects. It has remain a silent spectator favouring one group of people over the other. Such barbaric acts could not have happened without the support of the people in power. Such violence has no place in our country; they are unacceptable and need to be addressed immediately by the concerned authority to protect the innocents, safeguard the human rights and uphold this country sovereignty, secularism and Justice,” the memorandum read. Stating that in view of the complete breakdown of the law and order in Manipur, the CAS called upon the President to restore back dignity and human values by sending more peace keeping forces in order to give protection to the minorities. “Their homes and villages have been burned and they are now in the refugee camps or hiding in the jungles. Till a few days back, villages which were already pillage and the homes which were already abandoned have been burned by the militias. It only indicates that the state Government has completely lost control of the law and order in the State,” the memorandum pointed out
