Odisha: Low pressure over BoB to intensify into depression, IMD predicts rains in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 20 : A low pressure area has formed over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Friday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
In a bulletin, It said the low pressure now lies over the same region with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric level.
It is likely to intensify further into a depression over west central Bay of Bengal around October 22 and likely to move west-northwestwards initially and then gradually recurve north-northeastwards towards Bangladesh coast.
Met sources said under the impact of the low pressure, light to moderate rain/ thundershowers is very likely to occur at a few places over some districts of coastal Odisha and at one or two places over some other districts till October 24 next.
IMD bulletin further said under the influence of low pressure area and its further intensification, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on October 22 over the deep sea area of West central Bay of Bengal and 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on October 23 and 24 over west central adjoining north Bay of Bengal.
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-65 kmph very likely along and off Odisha coast from October 24 next.
Sea condition will be rough to very rough over these areas and the fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea area of West central Bay of Bengal from October 22 over west central adjoining north Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast from October 24 till further notice.
Fishermen who are in the deep sea are advised to return to the coast by October 22.
In view of light to moderate rainfall activity over coastal districts of Odisha, ongoing harvesting of matured paddy crops (early to medium duration variety) and vegetables may be completed before October 23, the IMD added.
