Low pressure area concentrates into depression : IMD
Bhubaneswar, Nov 15 : The low pressure area formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman and Nicobar islands on Tuesday moved WestNorthwestwards and concentrated into a depression on Wednesday.
IMD sources said it is likely to move initially northwestwards, then northnorthwest wards and intensify into a deep depression over West central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday morning.
There after it would curve north, northeastwards and reach over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on November 17.
IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, “the system will pass the Bay of Bengal near Odisha coast on the morning of Friday.
Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in almost all the coastal districts of Odisha on November 16 and 17.
Apart from that the wind speed may reach to 50-60 kmph on November 17 and the sea condition will be very rough from today till November 18.
The fishermen are advised not to venture into sea till November 18. And those who are in the sea, should return to the coast by this evening.,” Mohapatra said.
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely is likely along and off Odisha coast, and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal from November 15 to 17.
Bhubaneswar MeT Centre said a yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for several Odisha districts. Three districts of the state- Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Puri are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the system.
Districts under yellow, orange warning are asked to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality, particularly water logging and landslides in hilly areas.
