Journalists came under Israeli fire in Lebanon, one dead

Beirut, Oct 20 : A group of seven journalists has come under Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon, which has left one of them dead and another injured, the Lebanese military said Thursday.
“On October 19, 2023, enemy [Israeli] service people fired machine guns at a group of seven journalists who were covering events in the vicinity of an Israeli enemy position near the village of Hula.
As a result, one of them was killed, and another one was injured,” the military said in a statement.
The army also said its patrol unit, in coordination with peacekeeping forces of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, has delivered the injured person and the body of the deceased person to a hospital and taken the rest of the journalists to safety.
Shelling from both sides of the Lebanese-Israeli border has been going on for more than a week.
The situation sharply escalated after Israel announced a military operation against the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and seizing people in neighbouring Israeli communities.
Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than two million people, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel.
The escalation of the conflict has resulted in thousands of people being killed and injured on both sides.
