Is Rahul Gandhi still a thorn for BJP? and Rahul must revisit his deed during UPA regime

Mobilenews24x7 Bureau

Rahul Gandhi has been convicted and also has been disqualified as a member of the parliament. Will that stop any of the other leaders from the Congress to raise their voice against Modi and more so on the alleged link or proximity of the PM with the Adanis.

Was it that big an offence which relates to the executive that should lead to sentence of two years.

It is a fact that Rahul has remained a fiery speaker on the Adani issue which he hammered time and again referring to Adani’s sudden rise to the orbit of business.

Several questions are being raised about the merit behind the conviction? Was it necessary and so and so.

Anyway,  leave that to the lawyers and legal luminaries to debate whether it was justified or not.

His 2019 take that ..how it is that all the Modis…was generic statement or jibe whatsoever but it was for the court to see whether such generic observation falls under an actionable offence. Because it was not directly against any one in person to invite any criminal intent.

Now the award of two years imprisonment was pronounced, it can be left to the wisdom of the honourable court only.

Rahul has to eat the humble pie now

It may be recalled that, ironically rather, when the UPA government, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, sought to bring an ordinance to give some leeway to such convicted MPs, it was Rahul who famously tore up the ordinance at a press conference, saying that the Congress would make no compromises with corruption.

It may be a different matter that, as some constitutional experts feel, that it appears a bit absurd and excessive to sentence a person to a two-year jail term — not for corruption, not for dodgy business practices, not for fleeing the country with billions of rupees of tax-payers’ money — but for some verbal barbs made against the opposing political party in the heat and dust of the election trail.

More so, since virulent hate speech on the part of some political leaders often go unpunished and cases of communal incitement are dropped when these worthy individuals assume high political office, such as that of a chief minister of a state.

Is that a marriage of convenience that should be thought both by Rahul Gandhi and the ruling apparatus also.
