Injured Bhoi servitor of Sri Jagannath temple dies

Puri, July 6 : A Bhoi servitor who was injured in the pulling of the Taladhwaj Rath of Lord balavadra during the return car festival breathed his last on Thursday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Nakula Bhoi(40) and two others were injured when the pulling rope snapped during the Bahuda yatra.

Bhoi was first admitted to the Puri district headquarters hospital but later shifted to AIMS, Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated.

The temple administration has been bearing all his treatment expenses.

After the body was brought to Puri,the Bhoi servitors took his body in a procession to Swargdwar and the mortal remains were consigned to flames.

Temple chief administrator Ranjan Kumar Das said Rs.1 lakh has been released from temple fund to the deceased family and efforts are on to claim the insured amount from the insurance company as all the servitors are under insurance cover during the fete.

The family of the deceased servitor will get Rs.5 lakh from the Insurance company, Das said.
