May be it is like yesterday as nostalgia of new entertainment modules brought in a kind of revolution in the country. From the high end spurt of televisions right up to the door steps of ordinary people witnessed how the market strong surf detergent was cowed down by the indigenous ‘nirma’.

The most noticeable was the advent of consumerism and when Television was made colour. Wow! That was a kind of frenzied celebration country wide, people rushing to the first buyers window to see the colour tv. Forty one years ago from now when, in 1982, the new-age idiot box got a glory of acceptance.  

Although the Doordarshan was the nodal poster boy for the visual dream-cum-true, soon it was followed by others who had shutter operated tv sets with black and white stuffs, were shown in colors.

Perhaps, the first knock came from the international sports event Asian Games in 1982  ushering in the maiden glorification of technology.

Till then the Doordarshan remained the envy of all but it threw open new trends like popular tv serials like Hum Log with that tremendous amalgamation of rustic characters as a revisit to our traditions.

Yet we cannot run down the phase of transitions in between from TV to other expanses in 1992. The most transforming part came when the streaming services stepped in as OTT, the revolution has really caught up with the masses through Smartphones and so on.

Barring a few the pride of possession of color tvs was very, very rare.

It was a long travel from colour TV services were launched in April 1982, barely a few million households could boast of owning one in their drawing or living rooms.

 

But today, forty years later in 2022, the burgeoning middle class of India purchased 40 million smart TVs.

 

Of course from the legendary Ambassador cars to the Maruti Suzuki that rolled out first Maruti 800 as neighbors’ envy. Today, it is endless.
