Fearing rejection, Bengal BJP grasping at straws: Babul

Kolkata, July 11 : Tearing apart the saffron brigade, Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Minister Babul Supriyo on Tuesday asserted that the BJP’s deep-seated fear of rejection has them grasping at straws.

Stating that the BJP seems to be struggling to find solid ground, Supriyo quipped, “Their aimless attacks without evidence are truly remarkable. ”

“It’s not surprising, though. Their deep-seated fear of rejection has them grasping at straws,” he mentioned, in a counter to state leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s allegation that the ruling Trinamool Congress activists were making one last “desperate attempt” to “steal” the Panchayat elections by “obstructing” the agents and candidates of BJP and other opposition political parties from entering the counting halls.

Counting of ballots for the three-tier Panchayat elections held on July 8 began at 8 AM on Tuesday in 338 centres across the state. The initial trends showed the Trinamool was way ahead of its rivals BJP and the LF-Congress combine.

Commenting that the people of Bengal have spoken loud and clear, shutting the door on the BJP’s “divisive” politics once again, Supriyo asked, ” But isn’t it interesting how they conveniently forget to introspect before hurling accusations at others? ”

“Remember when LoP @SuvenduWB openly encouraged ballot box vandalism? ” he further asked saying, “The BJP’s silence was deafening. ”

Earlier, Adhikari stated, “Diamond Harbour Model” is in full swing on the Counting Day also.

Diamond Harbour is the Lok Sabha constituency of Trinamool National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, the powerful nephew of party chief Mamata Banerjee.

“They (opposition candidates and counting agents) are being restricted from going towards the venue from 1-2 kms afar. Bombs are being hurled to intimidate the Counting Agents. They are being mercilessly beaten up, even kidnapped,” the BJP MLA from Nandigram said.

Demanding that the State Election Commission (SEC) must halt the counting process and ensure that all the Opposition counting agents and candidates are able to reach the counting centres unobstructed, Adhikari averred that only when they reach the venue, the counting process should begin.
