Honkong: Over 100 trapped, more to be rescued in WTC fire mishap

Hongkong: Over 1,200 people have been rescued from Hong Kong’s World Trade Centre as dozens of firefighters managed to extinguish a fire that ripped through one of the city’s busiest buildings and left more than a dozen injured.

Everyone at the 39-story structure in Causeway Bay have been brought to safety by 5pm (09:00 GMT), after more than 300 were trapped earlier on the rooftop of the building, which houses both offices and a shopping centre, Police informed.

Police said the fire broke out in the machine room and moved to the scaffolding around the building. The building is currently under renovation.

No fatalities have been reported and rescue operations are still under way.

The eight who are injured are aged between 31 and 72. A total of 150 people have been evacuated so far, according to authorities.
