New Delhi, June 15 : The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Biparjoy” (pronounced as “Biporjoy”) over Northeast Arabian Sea has made landfall near Jakhau Port in Gujarat at 1830 hours on Thursday evening and by midnight it will be completely over the land.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a bulletin tonight said it moved east-northeastwards with a speed of 10 kmph during the past 6-hours and lay centered about 40 southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 110 km northwest of Devbhumi Dwarka and 60 km west-southwest of Naliya.
It is very likely to move northeastwards and cross Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) during next few hours as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 115-125 kmph gusting to 140 kmph.
The Storm Surge of about 2-3 Meters above the Astronomical Tide inundated the low-lying areas of Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwaraka, Porbandar, Jamnagar and Morbi districts during the time of landfall.
