Couple commits suicide in Puri unable to pay loans

Puri, July 2 : In a shocking incident, a couple unable to repay the loans they had taken from private financial banks committed suicide at Amalajodi village under Kanas police station limits in the district.
Sources said, when their door did not open for a long time this morning, his neighbours opened the door and found them hanging. The couple was taken to Khurdha district hospital, where a doctor declared them dead.
Khurdha police sent the body for a postmortem.
According to sources, Banamber Behera (57) and his wife Banita (52) had taken loans from HDFC, RBL, and SKS private banks and were unable to pay.
On Saturday, agents of a finance company visited the house of the deceased and were seen sitting for hours on the varandah of his house, demanding repayment of the loan, a source said.
Some even said they had allegedly threatened the couple. Since the filing of this report, no complaint has been filed with the Kanas police, it is learned.
