Congress crosses magic mark of 60; to form next government in Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 3 : The Congress Party crossed the magic mark of 60 seats in the counting of votes which is underway in Telangana on Sunday.

While ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led by KCR was ahead in 40 seats and the BJP had taken a lead in nine constituencies, while AIMIM was ahead in six seats and CPI one , according to the ECI data.

The Assembly election was held for 119 seats in the state on November 30.

Incumbent Chief Minister and BRS President K Chandrashekar Rao was leading in Gajwel assembly constituency, where he contested for the third time while in Kamareddy, he is trailing against Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A Revanth Reddy, who was leading by over 32,000 votes.

Revanth was a two-time member of the Legislative Assembly representing Kodangal constituency after he had won on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket between 2009 and 2014 in the Undivided Andhra Pradesh and the Telangana Assembly between 2014 and 2018.

In October 2017, he left TDP and joined Congress.

In June 2021, he was appointed the president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.

Except Ministers K T Rama Rao from Sricilla, Harish Rao from Siddidpet, Talasani Srinivas Yadav from Sanathnagar, Malla Reddy from Mechal and Prashanth Reddy Vemula from Balkonda, Several Ministers are trailing which include Indrakaran Reddy, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Koppula Eshwar, Dayakar Rao, Niranjan Reddy and others.

Other congress big-wigs including Bhatti Vikramarka in Madhira, N Uttam Kumar Reddy in Huzurnagar, and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in Nalgonda were leading.

BJP candidate and Huzurabad sitting MLA Eatala Rajendra set to lose in Gajwel and in Huzurabad assembly segment where Eatala’s rich arch rival Padi kaushik Reddy of BRS is leading.

Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar and other IPS officials meet state Congress president Revanth Reddy at his residence in Hyderabad.

With the results going in the way of grand old party, the congress party workers celebrated by bursting crackers outside Revanth Reddy’s house and also at the party office at Gandhi Bhavan here.

Meanwhile, AICC observers — Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Deepa Das Munshi, D Ajoy Kumar, K Muraleedharan and K J George, appointed by the All India Congress Committee to coordinate the party leaders in the state, landed in the city today, alerted the all contestants to reach Hyderabad and reportedly making preparations for organising ‘camps’ if the number was little below the magic mark of 60.

The Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has been in power since 2014, when Telangana was granted statehood and won the 2018 Assembly election as well.
