Legendary actress Mala Sinha turns 87

Mumbai, Nov 11 : Veteran actress Mala Sinha turned 87 on Saturday.

Bor on November 11, 1936, Mala Sinha was influenced by actress Nargis and dreamed of becoming an actress like her since childhood.

Her childhood name was Alda and the children studying in the school used to call her “Dalda”. She later changed her name to Mala Sinha instead of Albert Sinha.

Renowned Bengali film director Ardhendu Bose was impressed with Mala Sinha’s performance in a school play and offered her to work in his film “Roshanara”.

During that time Mala Sinha worked in many Bengali films. Once he got an opportunity to go to Mumbai in connection with the shooting of a Bengali film.

In Mumbai, Mala Sinha met Kedar Sharma who was busy producing colourful nights in those days.

He chose Mala Sinha for his film. In 1954, Mala Sinha got a chance to do films like Pradeep Kumar’s Badshah and Hamlet, but unfortunately both her films proved to be unsuccessful at the ticket window.

Mala Sinha’s acting star shined with producer-director Guru Dutt’s classic film Pyaasa released in 1957. The success of this film established Mala Sinha as a star.

Meanwhile, Mala Sinha showed her multi-faceted talent by playing a light-hearted role in the film Upbringing with Raj Kapoor, Phir Subah Hogi, Love Marriage with Dev Anand and the film Ujala with Shammi Kapoor.

After the success of B.R. Chopra’s film Dhool Ka Phool, released in 1959, Mala Sinha’s name started ringing in the film industry and later she became established in the film industry by playing difficult roles one after the other. Dhool Ka Phool was Yash Chopra’s first film as a director.

In the year 1961, she once again got an opportunity to work in BR Chopra’s film Dharmputra, which proved to be another superhit film of her film career.

After this, in 1963, the Veteran actress also worked in BR Chopra’s superhit film Gumrah.
