The issue of the protesting wrestlers at the Jantar Mantar against Brij Bhushan Saran Singh has already stretched far beyond a national tolerance.

Yesterday’s incident of some police personnel roughing up some members of the wrestlers and that too female wrestlers have made the old wounds greener.

The police, as usual, asking for a written complaint before taking any action against the erring cop do speak volumes about the recalcitrance of the law and order bosses.

Who are those wrestlers? The ones who brought glory for the nation and then the ‘netas’ play image pushing by garlanding them, including our Prime Minister.

First the chief of the National Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan ducked the pace of the protest by clear denial and the silence from the Centre or the Uttar Pradesh government breathed steam to his arrogance.

Thus the brave wrestlers were left in the duck for about a month licking their wounds. It was no mere allegation that the female wrestlers were subjected to sexual harassment and abuse by the chief of the Federation and such things were allegedly hidden under the carpet for fear generated.

Interestingly, the protesting athletes never allowed the site for political leaders and that in fact gave impetus to the care-a –hoot attitude of the government.

However the protesting wrestlers realized, perhaps, that the BJP leadership at the Centre preferred the procrastination to action against Brij Bhushan or an impartial inquiry.

The ‘beti bachao’ brigade’s silence has stirred the conscience of many and they have come back to Jantar Mantar yet again. For what, to be roughed up.

What worries one and all that, the deafening silence of the Prime Minister, who, so far, played a brilliant role in encouraging the sporting fraternity is yet to take a call on it.
