Veteran actor Javed Khan Amrohi passes away due to lung failure

Bollywood actor Javed Khan Amrohi passed away on February 14, who is best known for his roles in the popular DD series Nukkad and movies like Lagaan and Chak De! India, passed away on Tuesday from lung failure at a local hospital, according to his director Ramesh Talwar.

Javed was suffering from breathing issues and was bedridden for the past one year. He was admitted to Surya Nursing Home, Santacruz where he passed away after lung failure. His supurd-e-khak ceremony will be performed at Oshiwara Muslim cremation ground at 7:30 pm.

The veteran actor was in his early 70s and was suffering from breathing alignment. He had been bedridden for the past year and was undergoing treatment at Surya Nurshing’s home in suburban Mumbai, Talwar told PTI.

He added, “He passed away at the hospital around 1 p.m. as both his lungs failed.”

Stage and film actor Danish Husain took to Twitter to pay condolences.

“Gutted to hear about #JavedKhanAmrohi Bhai’s demise. This seems to be a season of farewell. Condolences to his family, friends, colleagues @iptamumbai #Nukkadd #Lagaan, and so on and so forth,” Husain wrote. See post here.

The actor has worked in over 150 films and television shows including ‘Prem Rog’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Chak De! India’ and ‘Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India’. He has been part of the critically acclaimed TV shows ‘Mirza Ghalib’ and ‘Nukkad’. He rose to fame with his acting in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’.
