ASI to undertake repair works of damaged Natamandap of Sri Jagannath temple
Puri, Dec 21 : The Technical core committee constituted by the Odisha government has decided to undertake the repair works of the damaged Natamandap of 12th century Sri Jagannath temple.
The committee on Wednesday discussed details of Natamandap drawing and designs of Natamandir repair plan prepared by IIT, Chennai.
Chief of the Core Committee N C Pal told media persons that a stainless steel box beam will be fixed to support the roof over the Garuda stambha as per the plan.The design and repair will be further discussed in the Chhatisa nijog, the temple servitors body, he said.
The core committee comprising officials of Archaeological survey of India(ASI), Temple Managing Committee members, the temple chief administrator and amicus curiae appointed by the Orissa High Court yesterday visited the damaged site of the Natmandop to study the movement of the devotees.
The committee will ensure that the repair work did not disturb the rituals and darshan of deities by devotees.
The Orissa high court while adjudicating a PIL filed by one Abhishek Das had directed the ASI which has been entrusted with the conservation and repair of the 12th century shrine to carry out repairs at the earliest and appointed N K Mohanty as amicus curiae.
Mohanty said efforts are on to gear up the repairs from January next and complete it before Snan Purnima and Rath Yatra to be held in June-July next.
