Agartala, May 12: When the state rocks with the gangrape of a college girl here, two separate rape cases including a gang rape of two minor tribal girls were reported in two districts of Tripura in two days, which made three girl victims.
Police said they arrested the prime accused of the gang rape incident and launched a haunt against nine other accused persons. The accused of raping another minor is absconding.
However, two accused of four in connection with the gang rape of a college girl were arrested so far. Both the accused Goutam Sharma and Sudhir Chettri were sent to five days police remand.
Police arrested one Laxman Pal, the uncle of the accused Prasenjit Pal of the college student gang rape incident from MBB airport in the evening for abetting the accused to fly to Kolkata.
Police later conducted a search in Prasenjit’s house on the southern outskirt of Agartala and recovered cash of Rs 92 Lakh on Thursday night.
“A separate investigation is launched to find out the source of such a huge amount of cash,” police said adding that the initial investigation revealed that Prasenjit was involved in IPL gambling and money laundering activities. Police are interrogating the family members about the source of money and whereabouts of Prasenjit but no breakthrough yet.
According to police, two minors were gang-raped in a rubber estate by 10 members group on Wednesday night. The victim’s girls were known to one of the accused through communication on Facebook and mobile phones.
Two tribal girls 16 and 17 years old from Ampi came to see the Boishakhi fair at Amarpur along with their close relatives.
Allegedly, Melarai Jamatia (19), a resident of Tingharia of Ampi met there in the fairground about their Facebook friendship.
The accused lured the two minors and put them on a bike and took them to the nearby rubber plantation in the deep jungle of Tingharia and rapped them along with nine others.
At the end of the rape, the accused left the victims in the fair premises on Thursday early morning.
The victims reached Birganj police station and described the incident following which police arrested Melarai Jamatia from his house in Tingharia and he revealed the name of others involved in the crime.
The victims were sent to the court and recorded their statements before the judge.
Meanwhile, Dhalai district police launched a search against one Rabindra Debbarma (46) of Lalchara village following the complaint of rape by a 13-year-old minor on Thursday.
Taking advantage of the lonely house the accused allegedly raped the girl but ran away when her mother reached home.
The condition of the 21 -yrs old college student of Agartala who was on Monday has improved and doctors at Agartala Govt Medical College said despite serious injuries on her body and mind, she is now responding to the treatment.
