Balasore, Dec 6 : Special judge POCSO Ranjan Kumar Sutar on Wednesday convicted a rape accused and sentenced him 10 years RI along with a fine of Rs 2000.
The judge ordered that in default of the penalty imposed on the convict he would further undergo another 6 months jail term.
The convict identified as N Ramarao had committed an offence of sexual assault against a minor girl of Simulia area in 2018.
The accused was tried under several sections of IPC and POCSO.
The court after examining 2 witnesses and 20 exhibits awarded the punishment.
The court further ordered Rs 4 lakh compensation for the victim to be paid through district legal services authority, Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda said.
