What a tale that makes itself from the demise(killing) of Manipur’s Phijam Hemjit. Who would never ever come back into the life of Yumlembam Birohini, the bereaved mother.
Media reports reveal how lies are being spoken brazenly to inflict the deadly and killer assault on two students Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi whi are no more. Can the authorities bring them back?
“If they were willing, they could have rescued him. My son’s phone was working, and his vehicle was used by them (the killers). But the authorities failed to take prompt action. So, it’s clear that they are also involved in the crime. I am very unhappy with the authorities,” she added.
Manipur in general and it’s capital Imphal in particular have been rocked by student-led protests after photos (dated 8 July) of the bodies of Hemjit and 17-year-old Hijam (both Meitei students) surfaced online. They had gone missing on 6 July and had remained untraced.
Then all over
The pics purportedly showed the two students sitting on the ground, in what appears to be a forest, with two armed men in the background. Another photo shows them lying on the ground, presumably after they were shot dead.
“Since the family didn’t have any visual proof earlier, they thought he would return. With this viral photo, they want to perform his last rites, so it is urged to give his mortal remains,” said Manzar Alam, a senior scribe reporting on Mnaipur for last two months.
With least regrets Manipur CM while confirming the deaths told the media that the case has been handed over to the CBI, the usual ease that a system off loads its guilt in such grievous issues.
Then the casual refrain:“In light of the distressing news that emerged yesterday regarding the tragic demise of the missing students, I want to assure the people of the state that both the state and Central government are closely working to nab the perpetrators.”
“Whoever was involved in the gruesome killing must be punished. I want to witness it,” Birohini was quoted by the media.
.
“So, how can this government take so long to trace them when they know these kids were under their custody? Social media is tracing the victims, not the authorities,” wondered Alam while talking to this author.
