Hills shamed: Woman paraded in Himachal village after blackening her face, five booked
Shimla/Hamirpur, Sep16 : Five persons were booked in Himachal Pradesh on Friday for allegedly cutting a woman’s hair and parading her in a village after blackening her face, police said.
Those arrested include the in-laws of the victim, the police said after registering the case in connection with the incident in Bhoranj village of Hamirpur district.
There was widespread outrage after a three-minute video of the woman being taken around the village with her hair cut and fresh blackened went viral on social media.
Hamirpur SP Aakriti Sharma said immediately on receiving information about the crime the police contacted the woman and recorded her statement.
The woman told the police that the incident happened on August 31. She also mentioned the names of some of her relatives and villagers who committed the atrocity on her. Soon after, the five accused were arrested, the SP said.
According to a report received from the spot, the victim was shamed in public as her in-laws accused her of disappearing from home two-three times.
Sources said none of the villagers came to the recue of the victim when she was subjected to atrocities. Rather, some of her neighbours were busy capturing video footage of the shameful incident on their mobile phones.
