IAF Deployed To Extinguish Massive Fire At Sariska

New Delhi, March 29: The IAF had to deploy two Mi 17 V5 helicopters for Bambi Bucket operations to douse the massive fire that spread over large areas of Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan on Tuesday. The two choppers are engaged in firefighting operation following requests made by administration in Alwar in this regard. The local administration took help of the locals to control the fire and created a fire line in the jungles to arrest the spread of the blazes.

Despite efforts, the fire has spread over approximately nine square km of area endangering wildlife and ecology in the sanctuary. The IAF has been instrumental in putting out forest fires in Uttarakhand and in the north east regions. The helicopter uses a 5000 litre Bambi Bucket to collect the water from nearby water bodies and sprays it over the blaze so as to prevent it from spreading further. UNI
