New Delhi Feb 9: Light to heavy rains lashed several parts of Delhi and its adjoining areas during the early hours on Wednesday morning. The minimum temperature in the city settled at 12.8 degrees celcius, four notches above normal, whereas the relative humidity recorded at 0830 hrs was 98 percent as per the India Meteorological Department(IMD). As per the prediction by the India Meteorological Department, thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rains would be accompanied by gusty winds occuring over a few places of Delhi and its adjoining areas.
“Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and winds with speed of 20-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of NCR ( Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh) Kithor, Amroha, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sikandrabad” said the morning bulletin. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the areas under the Western Himalayan Region, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand — are expected to witness scattered to fairly widespread, light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Wednesday. In view of the above predictions, the IMD has placed a yellow watch over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladak, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for February 9; and Jharkhand, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal for Thursday, February 10. Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality was in the ‘poor’ category on Wednesday morning as the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded 280 according to the Central Pollution Control Board.Â
