Use Drones To Track Liquor Ban Violators: Nitish

Patna, Feb 7  : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday directed to use drones, motorboats and dog squads to keep a tab on liquor ban violators, saying no one involved in these illegal activities would be spared. Kumar, in a high-level meeting to review measures being taken to enforce liquor ban law in the state, directed the authorities concerned to use drones, motorboats and dog squads as much as possible to keep track of those involved in liquor peddling and consuming.

Anyone found to be in violation of the liquor ban law would not be spared at any cost, he added. Chief Minister said that the focus should be on liquor mafias and those engaged in liquor selling in various parts of Bihar despite liquor ban. He stressed that those who consume liquor or incite others to do so will be dealt with harshly by law-enforcing machinery.

Kumar said that liquor ban violation cases should be investigated properly and all required steps should be taken to ensure its disposal through speedy trial. Punishment of convicts in liquor ban violation cases through speedy trial would help immensely in strictly enforcing prohibition, he noted.

Chief Minister said that special alertness was required to keep a strict vigil on liquor ban violations in state capital Patna. Strict liquor ban in Patna would send strong message in all parts of Bihar for similar action against them by authorities concerned, he noted. Kumar said that people from other states were highly impressed with the successful implementation of the liquor ban in Bihar and they should be informed about its details. As per the report of a survey conducted earlier, 1.64 Crore people had given up liquor addiction in Bihar and their number would have increased since then, so fresh survey was needed to get a new figure, he added.

Chief Minister said that officials and policemen found guilty of laxity in discharging their duties for enforcing liquor ban law would face stringent action. Senior officials should regularly monitor the liquor ban implementation work from ground level to police headquarter level, he directed.
