Siliguri, Jan 3: A tourist from Bihar on Monday slipped into the icy Lachung river in north Sikkim while taking selfie, Sikkim Police said. A rescue operation was on to trace the missing traveller.
” Abhishek Kumar, age 21, of Bhagalpur, who had come to Lachung with his relatives and friends on the New Year day, has been swept away by Lachung chu (river) this morning
while taking selfie near the river bank.” a report reaching here said.
Search operation was being carried out by police with the help from Lachung Dzomsa Hotel Association: Members, the ITBP and Army. Lachung is about 120 kms from Gangtok is situated at an altitude of 8,858 ft.
