Punjab: Man Commits Suicide In Police Custody
Hoshiarpur, Feb 19: A man committed suicide in the police custody by hanging self with a ventilator of the investigation room at Tanda police station, about 32 kms from here The incident happened on Friday night. According to the police sources, Rakesh Kumar (40) alias Jalebi of Mohalla Kainthan, Dasuya was detained last Friday evening acting on an FIR registered under sections 379, 482 and 411 of the IPC on February 15 last in Tanda police station.
He was brought in the police station from rear door by the Tanda police and was made to sit in an investigation room set up adjoining to the lockup. Rakesh committed suicide by hanging himself with the investigation room’s ventilator with his waist belt during last night, police said. Hoshiarpur Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Mukhtiar Rai said police had registered a case against Head Constable Suresh Kumar, senior constable Puneet Kumar, contable Amritpal Singh and Punjab Home Guard Jawan Kirpal Singh under section 304-A of the IPC in this connection. The body of Rakesh had been sent for postmortem and further investigation in the case is on, he said.
