Surajit Sengupta Under Ventilation, Very Serious

Kolkata, Jan 29 :Celebrated Indian footballer of yesteryears Surajit Sengupta, now admitted in a private hospital here with Covid19 infection, was put under ventilation support on Saturday after his condition deteriorated. “His condition is very serious. We tried to manage his condition with bipap support earlier. But his condition deteriorated from this (Saturday) afternoon and so more interventional support was needed,” Peerless Hospital Chief Executive and spokesperson Sudipta Mitra told UNI. Sengupta, a highly skilful right winger reputed for his artistry on the soccer field in the 1970s and 1980s, was admitted to the hospital ICU on January 23 with respiratory distress and decreased saturation after he tested positive for Covid19. He has a background of ischaemic cardiac illness. He is being treated by Dr. Ajay Krishna Sarkar and a team of consultants including cardiologist, pulmonologist and critical care specialists. Sengupta, who turned out for all three soccer giants of Kolkata football – East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting – represented India in the 1974 and 1978 Asian Games.
