Infection Prolongs Pele’s Hospital Stay
Sao Paulo, Feb 22: Brazilian football legend and one of soccer’s greatest Pele will be kept in hospital longer than was planned, doctors said following an urinary infection.
A statement was issued on Monday by the Albert Einstein hospital where he was being treated.
Pele, who underwent chemotherapy for a colon tumor that was removed in September, returned to the Sao Paulo hospital on February 13.
During his stay routine exams were carried out that showed the presence of a urinary infection, the statement issued to the media said. This has extended the 81-year-old’s stay at the hospital, the medical bulletin said. It also added that his clinical conditions were stable.
Widely considered as “GOAT” former Santos, New York Cosmos and Brazil player has been suffering a string of health issues that includes a hip surgery.
