France To Hold Meeting Over Champions League Chaos

Paris, May 30: French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera will hold a meeting with police and soccer officials on Monday to discuss the ugly scenes at the Stade de France that marred the Champions League final.

The UEFA Champions League final was delayed by over 35 minutes after Liverpool fans struggled to enter the stadium without tickets.

As the spectators outside the stadium continued to build up after kick off, the police dispersed them with tear gas and forced them away from the stadium.

“To analyze last night’s incidents in Ligue Des Champions and learn all the lessons for our major sporting events, tomorrow morning I will bring together at the Ministry of Sports the UEFA , French Football Federation (FFF), the @StadeFrance , Prefecture of Police, State services in Seine-Saint-Denis and the Ville Saint Denis,” Oudea-Castera tweeted on Saturday.

Liverpool Football Club has also requested a formal investigation into the incident that spoiled the final on Saturday.

“We are hugely disappointed at the stadium entry issues and breakdown of the security perimeter that Liverpool fans faced this evening at Stade de France,” Liverpool said in a statement on Saturday.

“This is the greatest match in European football and supporters should not have to experience the scenes we have witnessed. We have officially requested a formal investigation into the causes of these unacceptable issues,” it added.
