All England Open: Satwik-Chirag Off To Winning Start
Birmingham, March 16: India’s star men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got off to a winning start at the BWF Super 1000 All England Open Badminton Championships on Wednesday as they reach second round of the prestigious event after emphatic win. The Indian pair defeated the Scottish team of Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall by 21-17, 21-19 in the opening round. Indian women team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also advanced to round-2 after registering a win over Thai team of Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard by 17-21, 22-20, 21-14 in a three setter.
Satwik and Chirag will next face the German team of Mark Lamsfus and Marvin Seidel, who ousted Indian pair of Krishna Parsad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud by 16-21, 19-21 in the preliminary round. Women’s team of Treesa and Gayatri will be up against sixth seed Indonesian team of Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu. Another men’s team of M R Arjun and Dhruv Kapila knocked out in an opening round after they went down to second seed Indonesian pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan also known as ‘The Daddies’ after taking the first by 21-15, 12-21, 18-21. In an another match, women’s team of Meghana Jakkampudi and S Poorvisha Ram, however, lost by 5-21, 3-21 to Supissara Paewsampran and Puttita Supajirakul of Thailand. UNI
