Tripura BJP Smells Cong-CPI-M Understanding To Bring Back Communists
Agartala, Feb 28: Tripura’s ruling BJP on Monday alleged that the Congress has been working to pave the way for bringing back the CPI-M to power, in a replay of what it did in the 1993 assembly election. The sudden growth of Congress after former minister of Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s cabinet Sudip Roy Barman joined its fold has given “extra oxygen” to the Communist Party of India-Marxist which is trying to turn the situation “hostile”, alleged state information minister Sushanta Chowdhury here.
Referring to Saturday’s series of violent happenings – first in a Congress rally, followed by the attack on BJP’s Mandal office in Chief Minister’s assembly constituency Banamalipur and the hurling of petrol bombs on a protest rally brought out by the BJP – Chowdhury said each and every incident was designed to “malign” the state government and create unrest, which will help the CPI-M “fish in troubled water”. He indicated that the resignation of two BJP MLAs Barman and Ashis Saha was the result of an ‘understanding” among the national leaders of Congress and CPI-M for bringing the Communists back to power. The goal is to keep Communism alive in India, after the Communists has been uprooted from Tripura in the 2018 assembly election.
Attacking Roy Barman, Chowdhury said his father Samir Ranjan Barman was the architect of pulling down the Congress-TUJS coalition government in the 1993 elections by creating an “unusual situation and political unrest’ that compelled the Central Government to propose premature election. This resulted in the CPI-M (led Left Front) coming to power – after having been ousted in the assembly polls of 1988 -and continuing to rule for 25 years. “In 2003, 2008 and 2013 elections, Congress couldn’t form the government because of the betrayal of Congress central leadership. They leased Tripura at the mercy of Communists for their political benefit but BJP fought out and out with the support of the people in 2018 and unseated the CPI-M.
“Again, they have adopted the same strategy to ensure the collapse of the government before it completes its tenure and bring CPI-M in power,” Chowdhury observed. Meanwhile, BJP leaders including Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik held a crucial meeting with the party functionaries on Sunday night to review the political situation and discussed ways to further strengthen the party organisation.
“There are multiple efforts to create unrest by the opposition parties to disturb peace and development activities The meeting has issued direction to the ground-level workers and leaders not to fall in any trap to instigae them. Rather, they should devote themselves to good work and practise inclusive politics,” said a senior party leader attending the meeting. He stated that the government and the party would work in coordination to reach out to the last man and ensure all development schemes are implemented properly to provide maximum benefit to the people without any discrimination based on political affiliation so that even opposition supporters vote for the BJP in the coming assembly elections.
