Priyanka Cautions People Not To Fall Prey To ‘Divisive’ Politics

New Delhi, Jan 31 ; Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday asserted that elections should be fought on issues concerning the public and cautioned people not to fall prey to ‘divisive’ politics. “Elections should be fought on issues which are important for the public like development, unemployment, education and health. Only political parties benefit with caste and community politics, not public. They mislead the public,” she told reporters in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), after holding the door-to-door campaign for party nominee Pankhuri Pathak, who is pitted against BJP’s Pankaj Singh from the Noida Assembly seat.
Attacking political parties, which are in the fray for the forthcoming Assembly polls in UP, the Congress leader said, “Every political partie is promising that it will give employment, but how will they give employment, they are not talking about it. In our manifesto, we have set a roadmap in this regard. We will set up a special recruitment commission, besides making a job calendar.” She also appealed to the youth, women, and people of the state to think about their future and exercise their franchise sensibly. Earlier in the day, the Congress leader, while interacting with a group of women, in an apparent attack on BJP said, “Only gas cylinders and toilets cannot empower women. In our manifesto, we have also focused on women empowerment.
This has already brought change as other parties cannot ignore the same. “We will take concrete steps for women’s security,” she vowed. The grand old party is contesting the elections on its own. Elections in UP will be held in seven phases, starting from February 10. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
