Gujjar Leader Kirori Singh Bainsla Passes Away

New Delhi, March 31: Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla passed away on Thursday morning in Jaipur after a prolonged illness. He was 85. Bainsla was regarded as the architect of Gujjar reservation agitation in Rajasthan. Various leaders have extended their condolences on his death.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said in a tweet in Hindi, “I express my condolences on the demise of Colonel Kirori Singh Bainslaji, a strong leader of social movement. He fought throughout his life for social rights. May the departed soul rest in peace. My sympathies are with his family and friends.”

BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said on Twitter, “Saddened by the news of the death of Gujjar leader Kirori Mal Bainsla. He fought for the country and for society. My homage to the departed leader.” In 2008, Bainsla had led a massive agitation for the classification of Gujjar community as Scheduled Tribes. He had organised rail and road blockades in the state to push for this demand. Congress leader Sachin Pilot also expressed his condolences through a tweet in Hindi.

He said, “Heartbroken to hear the sad news of the passing away of Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla. My deepest sympathies are with the bereaved family at this difficult hour. May God give the departed soul a place at His feet and strength to the family members to bear this loss.” Born on September 12, 1940, Bainsla served the Indian Army for around three decades. UNI
