Election Process For First Phase Manipur Poll Begins

Imphal, Feb 1: The process for holding the first phase of Manipur Assembly elections in 38 constituencies started here on Tuesday. Returning Officers of five districts, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi will complete the first step of issuance of notification by Tuesday.
In the First Phase, the Assembly Constituencies going for polls are 1-Khundrakpam, 2-Heingang, 3-Khurai, 4-Khetrigao, 5-Thongju, 6-Keirao, 7-Andro, 8-Lamlai, 9-Thangmeiband, 10-Uripok, 11-Sagolband, 12-Keishamthong, 13-Singjamei, 14-Yaiskul, 15 Wangkhei, 16-Sekmai (SC), 17-Lamsang, 18-Konthoujam, 19-Patsoi, 20-Langthabal, 21- Naoria Pakhanglakpa, 22-Wangoi, 23-Mayang Imphal, 24-Nambol, 25-Oinam, 26-Bishenpur, 27-Moirang, 28-Thanga, 29-Kumbi, 46-Saikul (ST), 50-Kangpokpi, 51-Saitu (ST), 55- Tipaimukh(ST), 56-Thanlon(ST), 57-Henglep(ST), 58 Churachandpur (ST), 59-Saikot(ST), and 60-Singhat(ST).
Nomination can be filed from today (Tuesday) itself and will continue till February 8. The scrutiny of nomination papers shall be taken up on February 9, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be February 11. Poll for First Phase will take place on February 27. The Returning Officers have been asked to provide online nominations too through Suvidha portal in view of the Covid situation. Most political parties have also announced the lists of candidates for the ensuing poll to be held in two phases on February 27 and March 3. The second phase elections will be held in 22 Assembly constituencies.
