Congress leaders in Lucknow claimed that party workers were cane charged by the police and several of them have suffered injuries.

To protest against Irani’s remarks against Sonia Gandhi the party workers held a demonstration and raised slogans against the Union Minister who has postured herself as the David to the Gandhi’s Goliath in the erstwhile Nehru-Gandhi family borough in Amethi and finally defeating Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from here.

Congress spokesman Arvind Chaturvedi said that the manner in which the BJP MP from Amethi has insulted the 75-year-old party matriarch, is an insult to the country and Congress workers.
He said that party workers strongly condemn it and the agitation will continue till Irani was sacked.
Chaturvedi said that it is an insult to the daughter-in-law of a “martyr” (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi).

Irani went ballistic on Thursday after Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday made a derogatory remark against President Droupadi Murmu stirring a major controversy on Thursday, and prompting a war of words between the Congress and BJP.

The ruling party targeted the Congress president over Chowdhury’s remark. Irani raised the issue of the remark where he referred to the President as “Rashtrapatni”. She demanded an apology from the Congress president.

Irani, who has been at the receiving end of Congress’ barbs over a controversy involving a Goa restro-bar reportedly owned by her family, took the opportunity to lash out at the opposition party and called the Congress ‘anti-women’ organisation.
