Breaking: Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb Resigns

New Delhi May 14: In an unexpected move, BJP leader Biplab Kumar Deb resigned as Tripura Chief Minister on Saturday. Party sources confirmed that he has put in his papers.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb resigned on Saturday following the instruction of the BJP leadership. Deb, accompanied by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav, went to the Raj Bhavan here and handed over his resignation letter to Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the post of Chief Minister, Tripura, with effect from 14.5.2022,” Deb said in the one-line resignation letter.

Later Deb said that he put in his papers at the instruction of the party leadership. “My party has asked me to resign”, he said.

A former gym instructor, Deb had taken over as the State Chief Minister in 2018 after the BJP-IPFT alliance romped to victory, ending the 25-year rule of the CPI-M led Left Front.

The BJP legislative party is likely to meet around 7 PM to elect a new leader. Deb was in Delhi on Friday and returned to Agartala on Saturday morning.
