New Delhi, Jan 22 : Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday warned that the BJP leadership was unhappy with Karnataka MLAs who are pushing for a cabinet expansion through the media.
“Some MLAs are demanding cabinet expansion through the media. That is not right. I want to make it very clear that the central party leadership is not liking these MLAs,” he said.
“I want to tell my friends that if they want to make a demand, they can come and meet the national BJP President or some other central leaders, but they should not make demands through the media,” he told a section of the media here.
And as far as a leadership change is concerned, Joshi ruled it out by saying that the present government in the state will continue under Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai till 2023.
On January 20, senior Karnataka BJP legislators Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and MP Renukacharya held a closed-door meeting where they decided to put pressure for an early cabinet expansion.
They demanded dropping inaccessible Ministers and inducting new faces in order to boost the Bommai government’s image ahead of the 2023 elections to check the growth of Congress leader D K Shivakumar, who is confident of ousting the BJP.
Inducting new Ministers after March will be a meaningless exercise as the party willd go into an election mode. “If a cabinet expansion has to take place, it should be done immediately so that the fresh faces get ample time to prove their mettle as Ministers,” Renukacharya stated.
Both leaders along with other cabinet aspirants have met Bommai and pushed for an early cabinet expansion. There are four vacancies in Bommai’s cabinet.
