Big Showdown In Kerala: Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani For A Political Bout
Thiruvananthapuram, May 3 : There it seems to be a chasing game and that too in politics, but, BJP leader and Union Minister, Smriti Irani, after giving a scary chase to Rahul Gandhi in Amethi in the last general election, where she wrested the Lok Sabha seat from Rahul Gandhi, has targeted the Congress scion in his Lok Sabha constituency, Wayanand.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani are in Kerala on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi is in the state to kick start the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of INTUC while the Union Minister for Women and Child Developmentin is in his Lok Sabha constituency Wayanand to review the Aspirational District Programme (ADP) and will be visiting various tribal settlements in the northern district. On Monday, Smriti Irani tweeted in Malayalam: “Namasthe Wayanad ! I will be reaching there soon to attend various meetings relating to the development of the district. Will see tomorrow !.” Irani will review be interacting with district magistrate and district officials at the Collectorate. She is scheduled to visit various tribal settlements at Kalpetta and Maravayal. Later, she will have field visits to Ponnada Anganwadi at Kalpetta Municipality and Varadhoor Smart Anganwadi constructed under CSR Fund. She will address a ‘Stakeholders Conference’ at the PWD House in the district. Gandhi will inaugurate the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of INTUC at Kovalam Udaya Samudra. About 15,000 delegates are expected to attend the event in which representatives of various pro-Congress service organizations will also be present. The programme will begin with a working committee meeting to be chaired by INTUC National President G Sanjeeva Reddy. Gandhi will also unveil a portrait of former Kerala chief minister (late) K. Karunakaran.

Sudhakaran; Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan; former leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala; former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; MO Shashi Tharoor, INTUC state president R. Chandrasekharan will also participate in the jubilee celebrations among others. Irani’s visit to Wayanad comes amid Gandhi’s prolonged absence from his home constituency. The former Congress president kept his Wayanad seat after his defeat to Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the Gandhi pocket borough Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
