Japan Bids Tearful Farewell To Shinzo Abe

Tokyo, July 12: The funeral service of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took place in Tokyo on Tuesday, four days after his assassination in Nara.

According to CNN, the private ceremony took place at the Zojoji Temple in Tokyo, a historic landmark founded in the Kanto region more than 600 years ago and relocated to the capital, standing at its present site since 1598.
Thousands of people from all walks of life flocked to the streets near the temple to pay their respects to the late leader.
After the service, the hearse will be carrying Abe’s body from the temple to the Kirigaya Funeral Hall for cremation.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people braved the rains to leave flowers and notes of condolences in Nara, Japan, near the site where former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated on July 8, CNN reported.
The country’s longest serving premier was shot on July 8 by Tetsuya Yamagami in Nara during his campaign speech.
On Monday, the Cabinet Office had announced that Abe will be the fourth former Prime Minister to receive the decoration under the postwar Constitution after Shigeru Yoshida, Eisaku Sato and Yasuhiro Nakasone, Kyodo News reported.
