Lucknow, Feb 2: A total of 115 candidates contesting in the first phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh on February 10 have criminal cases while 280 are crorepatis. There are 623 candidates in the fray in the first phase which will cover 58 constituencies in western Uttar Pradesh. The survey covered 615 candidates.
An ADR report here on Wednesday said that 115 candidates were battling criminal cases, and most of them were in the Samajwadi Party. In the first phase, 21 of the 28 Samajwadi Party candidates and 17 of 29 RLD candidates had criminal cases registered against them. Out of 57 candidates of the BJP, 29 have criminal cases. There are criminal cases against 19 BSP candidates out of 56.
There are criminal cases against 15 out of 52 candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party. Of the 58 Congress candidates, 21 have criminal cases. Six candidates are facing murder charges. There are also 280 crorepatis in the first phase of elections, with the BJP accounting for the maximum of 57. Twenty-eight out of 29 candidates of RLD are crorepatis. Similarly, 50 out of 56 of BSP candidates and 23 out of 28 of SP candidates are crorepatis, Thirty-two candidates out of 58 of the Congress and 22 out of 52 from the AAP are crorepatis.
