Patriotism Invoked At A Price On People Of India

Har Ghar Tiranga’ under which the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to procure Tricolours  spending Rs. 40 crore. Everbody knows that, that was a call by the Prime Minister to hoist national flags on the 75th Independence Day.

UP will be buying about two crore Tirangas as part of the campaign and reportedly, the cost for the extravaganza would be on the shoulders of the common man again not that the respective states or the Centre are going to bear the expenses of the Tirangas.

The idea, it was said in a report that, hoisting of Iirangas would invoke a sense of patriotism among the people of India.

The logic sounds shrill. Do our people not have the sense of Patriotism so that, a flag can alone instill the sense of pride and possession for the country.

On the other hand, in few other states, like Tripura, the state government  has decided to buy 5.37 lakh Tricolours for the 75th Independence Day.

Tons of blood and sweat of people had flown in last fights for the Azadi and the feel is still within each Indian for which the presence of a Tiranga hoisted atop one’s house or not, is not going to be diluted in anyway, whatsoever.

Interestingly, “75 per cent (1.5 crore) of the 2 crore flags would be bought from the funds provided by the Panchayati Raj Department, while the rest 25 per cent (50 lakh) would be procured by the funds provided by the Urban Development Department,” a report notes.

Taking together the states, mostly governed by the BJP,  it would be an enormous sum that the people of India would have to bear for the Har Ghar Tiranga under the Azadi Ka Amtrit Mahostav celebrations.
