Be Aware: Stop-Salary Slapped On Government Employees By A Young District Collector

By D N Singh

No tolerance towards any kind of dereliction in duty. And that is the buzz prevails here in Odisha in a system that rules. And it has been done with a bang by a young IAS in Odisha’s Raygada district.

It may sound unprecedented but the District Collector of Raygada in Odisha, Swedha Dev Singh, has in a straight way stopped the release of salaries of the Tahsildars and their staff in Kashipur block for the coming month.

The Collector while taking stock of the situations went threadbare into the functioning pattern of the Tahsils and found that, regular absence from the office and a noticeable lack of connect with the people has left many things undone.

Which has led to widespread discontent among the general public of the areas.

Issues are many and but, the Collector found that the negligence on the part of the staff from top to bottom was glaring.

Coming under the Revenue Department, up-gradation work in schools, their records, public services like Bus stand development and in many other issues, the gaps between the rules and delivery were pitiably lacking.

While issuing warnings against any such failures in the future, the Collector, Singh ordered the stop-salary for the staff of the Tahasil offices.

The step initiated by Swedha Dev Singh has not only been praised by the public, who have appealed to the district Collector to enforce such discipline in other departments of the district.

Besides that, there is general fear among employees in other departments about such actions in the offices.

It may be recalled that, in past few years, Naveen Patnaik government has dismissed, suspended and gave forced retirements to many government employees for non-performance and dereliction in duties.
