Anand Sharma Exit: Second Wrap On Congress’s Knuckle That The Dynasty Must Rethink

By D N Singh

Something is bad within the Congress party. Whether the leadership is not able to hold itself to the need of the hour or the leaders within are somehow left wonder-struck, even political pundits left wondering.

This is the second recent jolt that the beleaguered party has suffered after Gulam Navi Azad made his way out of the steering committee now just before the elections in Himachal Pradesh, Anand Sharma had put down his papers as the Chairman of the Steering Committee does not augur well for the Congress there.

He, Sharma, supposed to be one of the oldest guards in the Congress hierarchy and a think tank, in his resignation has minced no words about his displeasure about being sidelined in several key issues. Which came as that of similar to the contention of Gulam Navi some time back.

The developments appear more ominous at a time when the opposition has shown the signs of uniting itself against the NDA in Bihar, such glitches in the most talked about Congress party cannot be viewed as a sign of harmony in the opposition camp.

Nitish Kumar in Bihar has perhaps demonstrated that, given the will and gumption an unity among the opposition can be possible.

But, as far the Congress party in India is concerned, its top most leadership still remaining hostage to a family diktat, does not go well with many senior Congress leaders like Sharma, Kapil Sibal, Gulam Navi and many more still pitched at the sidelines. Sooner or later, may the accumulated frustration within the leaders would spill out and make it further easy for the NDA.
