Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: The registration process for the vaccination of children in the age group of 15 to 18 years in Odisha began on Saturday (January 1, 2022), informed the Health Director, Bijay Mohapatra. Children born between 2005 and 2007 can register on the portal for the jab.
He said the eligible beneficiaries can register themselves for the vaccine jab on CoWin app or web portal and book their slots which will start from January 3, 2022. Beneficiaries who are anyway doesn’t have mobile and internet access can opt on-the-spot booking at the vaccination centers as well, Mahapatra informed.
Speaking about the speculations of local transmission of the Omicron variant, Mohapatra said, “We do not have any evidence so far on the local transmission of Omicron variant. With a low count of Omicron cases, the sample size is too small to arrive at any kind of conclusion.
“The cases of Omicron infection are on the rise in Maharashtra and some other states. Vaccine is the only way we can prevent it from spreading. However, we need to take utmost care and follow COVID appropriate behaviour while in public places and get ourselves tested if any of the symptoms are found,” he said.
Meanwhile, India has logged 161 fresh Omicron cases, taking their tally in the country to 1,431, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.
The 1,431 cases of the new variant of the coronavirus have been detected across 23 states and union territories so far, and 488 of them have either recovered or migrated.
Maharashtra has recorded the maximum of 454 cases, followed by Delhi with 351, Kerala 118 and Gujarat 115.
