Bhubaneswar, June 8: A team of the Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended a wildlife criminal from Boudh district and seized a live pangolin weighing 12. 4 Kg and other incriminating materials from his possession.
STF sources here on Wednesday said on the basis of reliable information, a team of STF conducted raid with the help of Boudh Forest Officials on Tuesday near Khuntigura village in between Kantamal-Baliguda Road under Kantamala Police station of Boudh district and apprehended one
Biseswar Bagarti of Tentuliamand under Tarava Police station of Sonepur District.
During search one Live Pangolin weighing 12 kg 400 gm and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession.
He has been handed over to Kantamal Forest Officials under Boudh Forest Division for necessary legal action at their end. The Live Pangolin was handed over to DFO Boudh for safe custody.
Enquiry is going on.
The Indian pangolin (Maniscrassicaudata), also called thick-tailed pangolin, scaly anteater and bajrakapta Odia is a solitary, shy, slow-moving, nocturnal mammal.
It is a schedule-I protected animal under Wild Life Protection act, 1972.
Since 2020, STF has seized as many as 15 live pangolins.
