Puri, Mar 18: In a circumstance what can be described as an overdrive of emotion, an unfortunate incident took place in the holy city Puri on the pious occasion of the ‘Suna Vesha’ ( Golden attire) of the deities, Lord Jagannath, lord Balabhadra and goddess Subhadra. Obviously there was a moment when the devotees’ zeal to have a glimpse of the unique sight when they were jaded with ornaments, the devotees  apparently clashed resulting in a kind of stampede.

Following devotees rushing to pay obeisance at Lord jagannath amid Raja Rajeswara Besa, a stampede-like situation arose outside Puri Srimandir during the Dola Purnima celebration this morning.

Reportedly, the devotees broke the barricade near Singhadwar and barged into the sanctum of Jagannath temple to witness Suna Besha of the Holy Trinity, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

As a result, many devotees and Sevayats have been injured in the stampede.

Notably, the holy trinity will be decked up for the very popular Suna Besha at Srimandir today to mark the holy Dola Purnima.

It is believed that on this day the deities play colours with devotees and servitors. They are seated on the Ratna Singhasan. The Suna Besha is much loved by the devotees as divine siblings are decked in gold jewelry embellished with diamond and gems taken out from the temple treasury.

Lord Jagannatha is worshipped as Dola Govinda during Dola Purnima and Lord Govinda with Goddess Sridevi are placed on the dola bedi.
